The photograph shows my maternal grandmother, Mária Sövér. She was born in 1910 in Gyergyóalfalu. Her husband, Károly Szász, was born in Szélelykocsárd, but he left the family early, and my grandmother returned with her children to her parents’ home in Alfalú. She had to work and raise the children. They worked in a restaurant in Piatra-Neamț during a hot summer. While resting on the concrete floor, she caught a severe cold, which led to a lung disease. She passed away in 1938, leaving behind two daughters, who were raised by their grandparents, Elek Sövér and Karolina László, along with another orphaned child. The photograph is in Ráckeve and is in my possession.
(Note: “Örökífju” literally means “eternally young” or “forever young,” often used affectionately to refer to a beloved grandmother.)
