What is DIA?

DIA (Digital Interactive Archive) is a project initiated and maintained by the Tarisznyás Márton Museum (Gheorgheni city, Romania), it is an interactive archive for old photographies. Our goal is to gather and to present the visual heritage of the Gheorgheni region. As the archive grows, we try to add the most accurate informations to every photo, related to it's date, provenience, theme. We also wish that our users will contribute to our work to identify as more informations as possible.

DIA can be used by everyone. We respectfully ask anyone who has any photos related to the Gheorgheni region to upload it in our archive. Pictures of buildings, street views or landscapes are wellcome as much as photos of your family.

How to use it?

DIA's interface enables a detailed search. You can search based on the keywords entered in the search bar at the top of the page or by clicking on the individual categories. At the same time, the system also displays additional suggestions for each opened photo.

If you want to use a photo shown here

Some of the photos in the archive are copyrighted, and their use requires the permission of the person who uploaded the respective photo. In this case, follow the instructions shown next to the photo. DIA administrators can help you get in touch if needed. Even in the case of non-copyrighted photos being used, we would be grateful if you would refer to the Gyergyói DIA website or notify us of the use.

If you would upload a picture to the archive

Important! We only accept photos taken before December 31, 2000!

First of all, please take into account the terms and conditions of use!

We try to make using DIA as simple as possible. You can upload a picture after registration by filling out the data sheet. It is important to know that the uploaded photo does not appear immediately, an administrator must approve it. If you classify your photo as copyrighted, don't forget to check the appropriate box!

However, it is less easy to determine the data of individual photos. The more precisely we enter the photo data, the more valuable and authentic our upload becomes, and at the same time, the easier it is for interested parties to find it. Therefore, please try to give as detailed a description as possible to the photo! If the back of the photo also contains useful information, you can also upload it next to the photo.

In order to identify the photo, categories are available, by selecting the appropriate ones, the image can be placed among photos of a similar topic. The definition of the categories is followed by the administrators of the site and, if necessary, supplemented and corrected.

If you are not sure about any data or information, please mark it, we will try to help!

Please, if you can, take care of the quality of the uploaded photos! (If you need help digitizing or scanning photos, contact us, we'll be happy to help!) Please upload the photo in jpg format, the file size should not exceed 8 megabytes. (We recommend image files with a resolution of 300 dpi and a maximum width of 4000 pixels.)

Bring us your old recordings!
